19th and Liberty Streets
Corner lot adjacent to the church parking lot
The FLC Community Garden is located in the corner lot – 19th and Liberty Streets – adjacent to the church parking lot. This garden is intended to provide fresh vegetables for the area, and to serve as a model and learning space for the community. The garden provides fresh vegetables for our food pantry as well as anyone in the neighborhood. Veggies are placed in the special wooden display cart which was made especially for our garden by church member Bernie Poole.
The garden started out as a vision in 2012 to use some vacant land that used to be the site of our apartment building for a positive purpose for the community. Over the last few years it has been amazing to see how God is working through the hands of His children to cultivate the land into a sustainable garden. On any given day during the summer you can see a wide variety of people come and be blessed by the opportunity to reap the harvest that God has blessed us with through the garden.
If you have a green thumb, want to learn, or just want to donate time to help in the garden, we are always looking for helpers. We also can always use tools, plants and financial assitance to support this program as well.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry was initiated several years ago at First Lutheran as a means to reach out and provide comfort to those who are suffering.
The Prayer Shawls are knitted, crocheted or quilted by members. Each one is created with love, thanksgiving and prayer, in the hope that the recipient will be surrounded with the love and care and comfort the shawl is made to deliver.
Each shawl is displayed in front of the congregation which joins in a prayer of blessing of each one before it is presented to its recipient.
This ministry has been extremely rewarding to those who create the shawls, and extremely meaningful and helpful to those who are recipients. The appreciation expressed has been overwhelming and the need is never-ending because there are always many who are in need of the comfort these prayer shawls provide.
If you would like to give a prayer shawl to a friend or loved one you can find the prayer shawls in our Gathering Space. We invite people to take prayer shawls for anyone that you think would be blessed by having one. All we ask is that you fill out the form that is attached to the clipboard in the cabinet.
Currently we have yarn that you can come to the church and get to make prayer shawls! Call the office to make sure someone will be able to let you in the building.
First Lutheran each August sponsors the annual hot dog give-away at the WVU Campus Ministry Center in Morgantown. The idea is, that by feeding the masses of students who pass by the WVU Lutheran Chapel early on in the fall semester, the students might come to notice all the great activities that are happening at the Chapel. Though the event is sponsored by the men’s prayer breakfast, we have had several women help out as well. So if you would like to help out with the cause, let us know and be ready to have a lot of fun – because it truly is a rush.
