German Festival
Herr and Frau German Fest 2013 Bill Kohler & Betty Smith |
The event is out on our Front Lawn so you can enjoy a wonderful fall day | German Costumes are optional but they do add a lot of fun to the event |
Each October First Lutheran holds a day-long German Festival. We put up a big tent on the lawn of the church and invite everyone to participate in the day. The most anticipated part of the day is eating the wonderful German food that the 'church ladies' prepare, along with Bill Kohler's now-famous sauerbraten and spaetzle. The menu always includes German Potato Salad, Bratwurst (and hot dogs for the kids), along with Kraut, sauted peppers and onions, home-made German cakes, vats of root beer, etc.
The 2019 Festival will be held on Saturday, October 18, beginning at 10 am. There will be entertaiment for all ages, including a DJ, a live German band, polka dancing, arts and crafts for the kids, inflatable obstacle course, a Church origins booth plus Sanctuary tours. The day will conclude with a Hymn sing at 4 pm and a Holden Evening Prayer service at 4:30 pm.
The German Festival is eagerly anticipated each year and is open to the public. Further details, call the Church office 304/428-6174.
