Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry was initiated several years ago at First Lutheran as a means to reach out and provide comfort to those who are suffering.

The Prayer Shawls are knitted, crocheted or quilted by members.  Each one is created with love, thanksgiving and prayer, in the hope that the recipient will be surrounded with the love and care and comfort the shawl is made to deliver.

Each shawl is displayed in front of the congregation which joins in a prayer of blessing of each one  before it is presented to its recipient.

This ministry has been extremely rewarding to those who create the shawls, and extremely meaningful and helpful to those who are recipients.  The appreciation expressed has been overwhelming and the need is never-ending because there are always many who are in need of the comfort these prayer shawls provide.

If you would like to give a prayer shawl to a friend or loved one you can find the prayer shawl basket, which contains all the prayer shawls, in the prayer chapel closet. We invite people to take prayer shawls for anyone that you think would be blessed by having one. All we ask is that you feel out the form that is attached to the red clipboard in the basket.

If you are interested in joining in this ministry, you may call Cindy Lockney (304/428-6174)

She will answer any questions and can provide instructions for making the shawls.
